Dear Friends and Neighbours,

With the holiday weekend ahead of us, I’d like to remind everyone that one of the most important things you can do is to stay at home and avoid gatherings. I know that it is hard to stay indoors and away from others - particularly on a sunny holiday long weekend – but I can’t stress enough how important it is to practice physical distancing and to continue our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

I can personally relate to the challenge of not being around my family and my grandson on a weekend when I would typically be surrounded by them. But we all have to do our part to stop the spread of this virus. Many of us are getting used to new ways of staying connected, perhaps even learning about new technology and trying video calls for the first time. I strongly urge you to check in with family, friends and members of your faith-based communities by phone or online and to avoid meeting in person.

If you are feeling disconnected or struggling with the challenges of physical distancing, please know that there are supports available to you. The City of Toronto has partnered with key mental health service providers to support the mental wellbeing of Toronto's residents during this time. To find out more about the City’s partnerships, click here.

Residents can call 211 to access support and get connected to one of seven primary mental health service partners for direct phone support. Mental health service information is also available at 211toronto.ca. All of the services provided are free of charge.

These are also difficult times for our kids. Grappling with not seeing their friends, being out of school, and trying to understand the implications of a global public health crisis can be challenging and confusing. The Toronto District School Board has put together resources for both parents and kids to help get through this. Kids Help Phone is also available to support youth mental health during COVID-19.

Please limit your trips outside the house as much as possible and continue to practice physical distancing. I encourage you to consider donating to food banks in Toronto as they are experiencing a very high volume of demand.

Wishing you a safe and wonderful holiday long weekend!

Sincerely,

Frances Nunziata

Team Toronto

The City has teamed up with my beloved Maple Leafs, as well as the Raptors, Blue Jays, TFC and the Argos to encourage Torontonians to stay home to help flatten the COVID-19 curve. Today, the City and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment launched its #TeamToronto video asking for residents to keep Toronto parks, streets and arenas quiet to support all those working on the frontlines, so that one day Torontonians can come together again and celebrate the Toronto way.

City urges residents to stay home and keep their distance from others over the holiday weekend

The City’s COVID-19 enforcement team will continue to conduct coordinated enforcement efforts throughout the long weekend in locations with the most activity. Officers continue to observe people participating in prohibited activities in City parks, including gathering in groups larger than five, not practising physical distancing, using closed parks amenities and allowing dogs to run off leash in public areas.

Lawn Signs

The City will be producing lawn signs for residents to show their united goal of staying home for Toronto, their families, friends and neighbours. There are two versions of these signs and they are 24” x 20” (images included below). Signs can be put in the ground with the metal frame provided or can be posted in windows without the frame.

City Staff are working to determine production quantities and exploring distribution methods. If you are interested in obtaining a sign for your lawn, please let my office know by noon on Tuesday, April 14. Please email councillor_nunziata@toronto.ca with your name, address, and phone number, and which of the two signs you prefer (number 1 or number 2 below). You MUST provide all of the information requested, please.
