Metrolinx: Construction expected February - April 2021
TEXT VERSION:
Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Construction Notice
Investigative drilling work between Scarlett Road and east of Weston Road
February – April 2021
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) is one of four new subway projects that will transform transit in our region; getting hundreds of thousands of people where they need to be, better, faster, and easier than today.
What work is happening here?
To advance design concepts and other structural plans for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, Metrolinx will be using small drill rigs to gather information and evaluate underground conditions. Using this information, Metrolinx can begin to determine the construction approach for this project.
Geotechnical investigations (Boreholes)
•A small crew will use drill rigs to create new boreholes and monitoring wells along Eglinton Avenue West between Scarlett Road and east of Weston Road.
•This work will inform the design and construction methods for project infrastructure including the new stations, elevated guideway, and bridge over the Humber River.
•Work begins in February and takes approximately 8-weeks to complete.
•For existing monitoring wells, we will visit them every two months to draw samples from.
Underground utility investigations
•A small crew will also be locating underground utilities that require road cuts in some areas between Jane Street and east of Weston Road.
•The crew will back fill any road cuts and apply paint markings to note the physical location of the utilities.
•Utilities are located within the public right of way. However, the limits of the road or sidewalk do not always match up with the limits of the public right of way. At times, utility location markings may be visible on sidewalks, adjacent driveways and boulevards.
•Work begins in February and takes approximately 3-weeks to complete.
HOURS OF WORK
•Work can occur between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m, Monday to Friday.
•Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
WHAT TO EXPECT
•Residents nearby can expect to hear noise caused by a drill rig, trucks and other equipment.
•Work equipment may be left onsite until the work is completed.
TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
•During construction hours, lane reductions and pedestrian detours may be required.
•Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and expedite work.
