Storm & Sanitary Utilities Installation: Closure of Hollis Street
OVERVIEW
•On November 11, 2020, Hollis Street will be closed at Weston Road for approx. five (5) weeks while crews install a new sanitary and storm system
•Hollis St will be closed to vehicular traffic, including resident vehicles
•Construction activities will include trenching, pipe installation, back filling, and temporary road restoration
•In addition, the following activities will be required:
•Overnight water shut-offs for valve installation
•Tree removals
•Water shut-offs for sewer connections
•Hollis St will re-open upon completion of the work and will be re-paved in spring 2021
HOLLIS ST CLOSURE DETAILS
•Hollis St will be closed at Weston Rd starting November 11, 2020 for approximately five (5) weeks
•All vehicle access will be prohibited, emergency vehicles excepted
•One sidewalk will be maintained at all times to facilitate property access
•Driveway access to 1151-1167 Weston Rd will be closed
•Waste collection will be coordinated with Toronto’s waste management contractor to ensure continuity during the closure
•Construction will take place Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 6:00pm.
WHAT TO EXPECT
•2-3 meter excavation secured with concrete barriers and fencing
•Construction equipment, including excavators, hydro-vacuum, roller, loaders, trucks, and lighting

•Overnight water shut-offs for valve installation

•Tree removal

ACTIVITIES:
•Overnight water shut-offs for sewer and sanitary connections
•Hollis Street remains closed

ACTIVITIES:
•Temporary road restoration
•Hollis Street reopens
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES OVERVIEW
•In order to perform the new utilities installation, two other traffic stages, in addition to overnight water shut offs and tree removals, will be required.
•Prior to the closure of Hollis Street, water valve installation will take place on Weston Rd
•Following the closure of Hollis Street:
•Tree removal at the Hollis St noise wall, mid-November
•Storm and sanitary connections on Weston Rd, end of November
WATER VALVE INSTALLATION
•Prior to the closure of Hollis Street, water valve installation is required on Weston Road
•An overnight water shut off on Monday November 9* and Tuesday November 10* is required to perform this installation *exact dates TBC
•Water will be shut off from 10:00pm until 6:00am to the affected properties:
•1151 – 1239 Weston Road
•1156 – 1228 Weston Road
•Hollis Street & Locust Street
•General notification has been provided to impacted properties. Confirmation will be sent once dates have been confirmed.
•Throughout the installation, one lane in each direction will be maintained on Weston Rd
•Northbound and southbound left turns will be prohibited
TREE REMOVAL ON HOLLIS ST
•In mid-November, crews may need to remove one or two trees at the noise wall on Hollis Street
•These trees and their roots are in conflict with the utility installation
•Arborist report pending
•Exact date(s) of removal are still TBC
•Hollis St traffic configuration will remain the same
•Notification will be provided to surrounding properties
STORM AND SANITARY CONNECTIONS
•At the end of November, crews will move back onto Weston Rd to perform the storm and sanitary connections
•This work will involve approx. four overnight shifts, and one daytime shift
•Overnight water shut offs will be required. Communication will go out to affected properties in a future notification
•Hollis St will remain closed
•On Weston Rd, one lane in each direction will be maintained
•Northbound and southbound left turns will be prohibited.
MITIGATION MEASURES
•Affected properties were canvassed and alternative parking arrangements have been provided
•Parking at the GreenP on Locust St has been provided to all residents of Hollis St
•On-street parking on Brownville Ave and Pearen St has been arranged with TPA for affected businesses
•Coordination with Toronto’s waste management contractor to ensure continuity of collection services
•Maintain access to Hollis St for Emergency Service vehicles
•Regular site maintenance for dust and debris
•Updated notifications will be provided to affected properties as specific works begin
