Dear Friends and Neighbours,
Last week the community and my office received the upsetting news that a new meat processing facility is looking to open on the former Ryding Regency site at 70 Glen Scarlett Road. I sent a letter to the Ontario Minister of Environment to confirm whether an Environmental Compliance Approval has been granted for this site and for the Ministry to confirm what actions will be taken to ensure that the facility does not begin operations without all necessary approvals.
Another slaughterhouse is not what we want to see in Stockyards, and I am working to determine what actions we can take as a community about this. I am hosting a virtual meeting about this on March 3 at 6:30 PM. Please see details below.
I would like to highlight that the City has officially cancelled all major in-person events until July 1. This unfortunately includes our celebrations in Weston Lions Park and Amesbury Park.
Registration for the 2021 CafeTO program officially opens for bar and restaurant owners this Friday and there is an info webinar about the program and how to apply on March 2. More about this below.
Sincerely,
Frances
