Dear friends and neighbours,

As the school year comes to an end, I would like to congratulate you, parents and children, for pressing through a particularly challenging year. The transition to online learning and socially distanced classes was not easy. Yet, in spite of these unprecedented circumstances, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel—the school year is mere days from over, vaccination rates are steadily rising, and the City of Toronto is beginning to safely reopen.

On Friday, June 11, Toronto entered Step 1 of Ontario's reopening plan, having achieved 60% of adults with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccinations are being distributed quickly and safely, thanks to the tireless efforts of our frontline workers and volunteers. Three million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across Toronto, and more than 30% of adult residents have been doubly vaccinated. As of June 23, we have witnessed a sharp decline in COVID-19 spread, with an average of 57 new cases per day in the City of Toronto.

After a challenging year and a half, things are looking up. Please stay safe and healthy and enjoy the sunshine. Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2021!

Sincerely,

Frances
